MPs linked with Georgian Dream’s Honorary Chair Bidizna Ivanishvili who are still members of the Parliamentary Majority demanded to investigate “Saakashvili’s crimes” in connection with the 2008 Russian invasion of Georgia, again blaming the war on Georgia.

They also lashed out at Michael McFaul, a former US official currently serving as a co-chair of McFaul-Yermak contact group on sanctions.

“Michael McFaul, the coordinator of the sanctions group created by Zelenskyy, was pushed into saying in an interview that Georgia, which was a front-runner country in 2008, now falls behind Ukraine on the way to NATO.

Only one criterion remains that McFall can refer to as Georgia's advance in 2008. In 2008, the Georgian government could not avoid war and fought, and now Zelensky's government is doing the same. In other words, they directly indicate that they will talk to us about NATO only if we go to war.

McFaul's reference further strengthens our belief that the 2008 Russia-Georgia war requires a deep investigation [...] We now have a full opportunity to find out in detail whether or not UNM and Salome Zourabichvili have already agreed on what happened - that Saakashvili started the war in 2008.

Following the elections, we will do everything to fully investigate the crimes committed by Saakashvili's regime in 2008," a self-styled Ivanishvili-linked group of MPs stated.
